Um terremoto de magnitude 7,1 atingiu a Venezuela nesta quarta-feira, 24. Segundo informações do Serviço Geológico dos Estados Unidos (USGS), a situação ocorreu na região próxima à costa do país. Fortes tremores derrubaram prédios na capital, Caracas, e testemunhas relatam momentos de pânico.
O epicentro do terremoto foi 28 km a noroeste de Montalbán, uma das cidades autônomas do estado venezuelano de Carabobo. Após isso, tremores secundários ocorreram. A ocorrência foi registrada às 19h04, no horário de Brasília.
Em Caracas, a capital do país, a situação foi tensa. Até o momento, não há informações sobre eventuais vítimas.
Em paralelo ao terremoto, o Sistema de Alerta de Tsunamis dos EUA emitiu alerta de tsunami para Porto Rico e as Ilhas Virgens.
